Favors and 1st Blog Candy

Here's the favor I made for my mom's retirement. I already made 40 sour cream containers (like this!) but Thursday before the party, they all came apart! I guess I didn't use the right Sticky Strip. Luckily, I found this cute favor boxes at a dollar store (1 package contains 12 boxes). What a deal... right?!?

Mom's favorite color is yellow and she loves frogs but I was having issues with yellows and greens and I have less than 24 hours to make these, so I just grabbed this hippo from Pun Fun set from Stampin' Up, water-colored the hippo with Going Gray classic ink, ribbon and balloon were colored with So Saffron. I then layered it with So Saffron card stock and raised it with stampin' dimensional. The favor boxes were stamped randomly with Background Basics using So Saffron classic ink. Easy Peasy!

As mentioned on yesterday's post, here's my very first Blog candy. I just passed the 12 thousandth hits!!! Thank you for coming to visit me. Here's what you'll get from me... a bride's bucket with tons of gorgeous, shimmery, embossed paper flowers, 4 clear stamps and a 3-yard stitched ribbon.

To win, just leave a comment on this post telling me how you celebrate birthdays with your child.
Random.Toni (<-- my daughter) will pick the winner on her birthday this Thursday, March 20th and I will post the winner on Friday, March 21st. Good Luck!

What a bummer about the sour cream containers coming undone! But your little favors are adorable! Gotta love the dollar stores! I've been trying to remember to look for those flowers when I go to town...I keep forgetting. Hope I win!

No need to put me in the drawing! Big congrats on your milestone!

Congratulation Catherine on reaching your 12,000th hit! Happy Birthday to your little girl for Thursday and I hope she has a great birthday and has lots of fun. I have two daughters and my oldest was 8 on the 8th March. She had a bowling party and then danced with her friends to her favourite music "High School Musical". Her best friend then came to ours for a sleepover. Thank you for your lovely comments on my blog. Nikki x

Hi Catherine. Great job with your plan "B" containers.

Thanks for coming to my blog and leaving a nice comment.

I don't have any kids but I have a niece. We go all out for her birthdays. We throw party-of-the-year bashes at our house complete with games, prizes, food and invitations all following whatever theme she picks the year before. This year we are doing a dog theme.

It's so easy to see why you are over 12,000 hits; your blog is very visually appealing, and you do awesome work! My kids are grown up, but they still love to receive homemade cards from me. If they are in town, I make a big family supper for them.

Your favor boxes are too cute! I love those little boxes from the $1 store!! Great blog candy!! My kids are 10 y/o and 7 y/o and we always celebrate with a party for each of them. We usually try to go somewhere different each year (somewhere besides my own house since you clean up before the party and then the house gets destroyed during the party! LOl so you clean again!!).

GREAT way to solve a small disaster with the containers coming apart! I would have freaked a little! These are so cute, and I love that hippo! Your coloring is so soft and pretty! Love the blog candy! Congratulations on all of your hits to your blog! You do awesome work, so it's no wonder! Take care!

Your favours are so pretty, love the stamp, sorry to hear the others didn't stay together. Your blog candy is fabulous and it's my son's birthday on Mon, we are going to watch the Formula 3 car racing. Brilliant day out

Catherine, those are the cutest darn thing...sorry about the sour cream containers and all that work, but these are just adorable. Love that hippo, can't wait to get this set.

Thanks for the chance at the blog candy too, what a great stash you're giving away. Happy birthday to your daughter too. At our house we always have a small family party on my kids' birthdays, it's just myself, my husband, and my 2 kids. We eat dinner and have a cake together that night. We let them have their gifts in the morning, too mean to make them wait all day! :)

LOVE these party favours - especially since you had to whip them up so quickly - they look fantastic! The hippo is so cute! It's too bad your sour cream containers fell apart, though. :(

For my kids' birthdays, we get together with their cousins, aunts, uncles and grandma and grandpa (all on my husband's side since we all live in the same town) and have dinner, cake, open presents, play, etc. Since almost all of the cousins are under five at this point, it's pretty chaotic, but lots of crazy fun!

What an interesting coincidence - my youngest son Cody turned 9 today. I couldn't stand the thought of sending him to day care on his birthday (it's spring break), so I took the day off work. Unfortunately, I could never be so frivolous as to take a whole day off and not get "things" done, so I scheduled hair cuts and doctor appointments. * SIGH * I suck as a mom. We spent 3/4 of the day running around and now I'm too tired to even look at him. At least we managed to get to Target to cash in the gift card he got from his grandparents. He got himself a ginormous nerf sniper rifle that he is happily shooting all over the house right now. He's such a punkin - when I told him I was sorry for spending his birthday running errands he told me, "Any birthday I get to spend with my family is a good birthday." Wow. I'm so blessed!

You are amost 13 thousand hits! wow! :)
I celebrate with inviting some of her friends over and making the cake. Just that for her is a lot since she cannot eat other cakes when she goes to a birthday party because she is milk and soy intolerant. She as the right to eat what she wants and we are doing some games. :)
Thanks for the chance to win! :)

Birthdays with grown sons is a challenge. I always liked to do something different and a little bit surprising when they were little. Now it is usually pizza, cake and ice cream of choice and a present. Then bye mom! Well. That's the way children grow!

Hi there-
great party favors- I always get jealous when people find a great deal-

I am one of those over the top moms- can't just be on the PTA have to be the president- team mom- cool mom- etc... So we go all out for birthdays- except for now we had a little boy 6 days after my daughters bday and so last year we celebrated her birthday 2 months later- in the summer and had a luau party- the year before pirates and mermaids - I like to play fun little games and give out prizes- but the best game so far is a treasure hunt- each kid had thier very own check off list and they went around the yard finding treasures- anyways we love BIRTHDAYS!

Thanks for the comment! Love your blog. You do amazing work!! I'm still checking it out. I love the boxes you made...how cute are they!?! Hope your daughter has an awesome birthday! My daughter's birthday is December 27 so we make sure all the Christmas lights and decorations go down on Christmas night and it's full BIRTHDAY mode. Kadesia picks a theme and we go with that each year. It's in the winter and unpredictable as far as weather goes, and right between Christmas and New Year's so there's a busy time that week that keeps a lot of family and friends from celebrating with her, but she doesn't mind because we make it all about her! Then on June 27, I take her to the store and get her a little cake (she gets to pick which one) and I light candles on top, she makes a wish and then we eat a piece together. Then we have a Kadesia day, since it's much warmer and nicer that time of year. I feel like she kind of gets ripped off in December! LOL
My son turns 1 in August so it should be a little easier to plan a party for him then.
Happy Birthday, Toni! Enjoy the first day of spring as you enjoy your special day, sweetheart!!!

Neat projects there, too bad about the sour cream though! We have no children but a few Godchildren,so we always get invited for party and cake and the gifts,it's lots of fun cause I don't have to organize anything and enjoy seeing their faces enjoying their day!
Congrats on all your hits,Woohoo!
Thanks for the chance at that wonderful candy!!!

Great candy ~ and please wish your daughter a happy birthday for me!

Our special birthday celebration is to have a pinata. In past years, we hung it from the tree in front of the house, and all our kids took turns swinging ~ they love it!

Blog candy fun!
I celebrate by having all the family over and cooking a big pot of chili (her birthday is in November and she loves chili!). We usually get an ice cream cake with something girlie, this past year was Pretty Ponies, (it usually has something to do with horses, she's obsessed!) and we dance and have a blast. She loves ice cream cake almost as much as I do, which is a lot, since I reign in this area. *grin*

Catherine,
How frustrating about the sour cream containers, but these gift bags are ADORABLE.

Today is my birthday and ten days later is my son's. Our tradition is home baked pumpkin muffins on your birthday. I don't get them, but the kids look forward to getting them on those special morning. I refuse to cook them any other time, except for birthdays.

Tell your daughter HAPPY BIRTHDAY from me!

Christine said...

oooh, those look yummy!!

congrats on the 12,000!!! happy birthday to your DD!!

i usually threw large parties for my kiddos when they were much younger, but lately, i find that i enjoy just having dinner and a simple celebration, with both my kids and my DH. I think it's more meaningful that way.

Wow, congrats on the 12 thousandth hits!!! I really like your favor boxes and especially the deal that you got from a dollar store. I need to check out that store myself!

The sad thing about my kids being older and having birhday's, they don't want the cute little parties anymore. We have Texas Holdem parties. Sad, but true. I need to come up with a card for that. I just keep thinking about the cute pirate party we did one year. Oh well. Times do change.

Congrats on the hits! Well done! Love your blog -- thanks so much.
On birthdays, each child chooses what they want to eat for each meal and what kind of cake they want made. We sing several times during the day and the day after ("Happy day after birthday to you....")

I'm in luck - just found your blog and you're offering blog candy! My sons are older now ... but we've always celebrated their b'days by having them pick the restaurant of their choice, then opening a couple presents the day of their parties. Later we celebrate with the family.
